Unlike non-smokers, smokers seem to show a greater openness to trying new things. Maybe they have a higher level of overall curiosity, but cigarette smokers also tend to be more likely or prone to exploring other potentially harmful or high-risk activities. Second, exercise, nutrition, and monitoring of one’s overall health tend to be values that have little appeal to smokers compared to non-smokers who tend to have a “live for the moment” mentality. Finally, unlike non-smokers, smokers appear to value the “here-and-now” more than non-smokers who seem to value the future more.
